Last week the trial began of Kara's father, Dale Neumann. He claims that he "did not know his 11-year-old daughter had diabetes." However, his ignorance about the severity of his daughter's medical condition is betrayed by comments he made to a friend as Kara's condition continually worsened.
Dale Neumann told a Bible study friend he considered his daughter's illness "a test of his faith," Leonhard said. How utterly selfish are these parents? God did all this just to test them? And what kind of god are they serving, who thinks its entirely practical to "test one's faith" by the crippling, maiming, and ultimately the death of one's child?
Should it be any surprise to us? After all, Christianity in its various forms -- including mainstream varieties, largely teaches that Abraham's attempted sacrifice of Isaac was a perfectly loving, reasonable demand by God in the testing of one's faith.
In my opinion, that just like the mother, Dale Neumann is as guilty as his wife in his religious extremism. A "full-Gospel Christian" can not help to be otherwise. In the meantime, we will just have to wait and see how the jury decides.
If you want to end this type of religiously motivated-abuse and restore the right to access medical health care for these children whose parents are unfortunately sincere in their beliefs, please contact your state legislator and ask them to support LRB-2190.
